Art To Start
So we started this blog nearly a year ago. We knew when we started that it was a little premature, but I don’t think we expected it to be so long before our next post.
In any event, we’ve taken a step in our adoption by requesting some information packets from two adoption agencies. We thought we had our agency picked out, but when I went back to their site last week I saw that they don’t actually have a Rwanda program. Todd and I both recall their having a Rwanda program, so we’re not sure if we’re a little crazy and just made that up, or if they’ve stopped adoptions in Rwanda. We have a contact at the agency so we’re going to ask her if there’s a reason they ended their program, just to make sure there isn’t something about adopting from Rwanda we should know.
Anyway, after realizing our chosen agency doesn’t do adoptions through our chosen country, I took another look again at their other countries to see if there’s somewhere else we’d be interested in adopting from. We’ve decided to stick with Rwanda because it’s a little less expensive than most other countries, there are infants as young as 3-months-old available, the wait time is shorter than most other countries and Rwanda only requires one trip to the country by the adoptive parents.
After we decide on an agency we’ll fill out our application and send it in with an application fee. This would start the official part of the process, so we’d like to have some money saved up before we really get started. Most of the organizations who provide grants or interest-free loans require that you already have your home study done before you apply to them for financial aid, so we need quite a bit of money saved up to pay for everything that needs to be done before we can start asking for help.
One way we’re going to raise money is by selling some of my decoupage art. All of the money we make from selling these pieces will go straight into our adoption fund to help us get started. I’ll sell the items on my other blog, with2ys.com, but I’ll post about them here as well.
The first item we’re selling is my Hummingbird collage. I previously offered this for sale on my other blog, but at that time I was only able to sell a pdf version. We are now able to make prints of the collage, so for $15 you get an 8×10 print on matte, acid-free paper. So head over to the other blog, check it out and place an order!

We look forward to sharing more news as we finally get the process rolling. Stay tuned.
